Birch Haven Campground sits on Paper Birch Drive in the quiet community of Tenstrike, Minnesota — a town so small the mail carrier knows your name. We're surrounded by stands of paper birch and white pine, far enough from the highway that the only traffic you'll hear is wind moving through the branches.
This isn't a commercial park with fluorescent lights and shared laundry rooms. It's a collection of campsites on real ground — dirt, leaves, the occasional pinecone — where you pitch your tent or pull your rig in and the world gets quieter by the hour.
Whether you're passing through the Iron Range or making a dedicated trip to unplug, Birch Haven gives you what most campgrounds can't: actual solitude.
No RV hookups, no generators running at dawn, no party next door. Just your site, your fire ring, and whatever sounds the forest makes on a normal night.
Level ground. Shade from mature trees. Room to spread out. We maintain each site so you don't have to — cleared, graded, and ready when you arrive.
Light pollution is a memory here. Aurora season runs September through March, and on clear nights the Milky Way is visible without leaving your campsite.
Sites are spaced for privacy. Birch trees and natural screening separate each spot so your neighbors feel like they're miles away — because they basically are.
Each site includes a fire ring and cooking surface. Bring your own firewood or gather fallen branches where permitted — the best meals are the ones cooked over an open flame.
Tenstrike sits near an network of snowmobile, ATV, and hiking trails. In summer, fishing and canoe access is close by. The Boundary Waters is a drive away for the ambitious.
These are the moments that draw people back — and the ones that make first-timers never want to leave.
We're located at 12003 Paper Birch Drive NE in Tenstrike, Minnesota 56683 — a small community in St. Louis County, roughly midway between Duluth and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.
The address is easy to find off Highway 37. Once you turn onto Paper Birch, the trees close in and the radio signal drops. That's by design.
